What do we do at BARCS?
The majority of the dogs in the care of BARCS are Pit Bulls or Pit Bull mixes. We strive to raise the adoption rate of PB type dogs, and to keep them in homes once they are adopted. By doing socialization exercises, Pack Walks, volunteer workshops and seminars for volunteers, staff, past or future adopters, and leash training, we plan on changing the public's mind about this amazing breed.
Our newest program, the Pit Bull Ambassador's Club, shines the spotlight on dogs that have been in the shelter for longer periods of time, and those that we feel are especially well mannered and even tempered. They must pass a series of tests and behavior observations in order to qualify in the program. This includes being able to play well with others and greet strangers calmly. So far every PBA has been adopted into a loving home or placed with a foster parent until that home is found within just a few short days of passing their tests. This club seems to serve as an "instant adoption" button for the dogs that have been discarded.
We believe that every dog deserves the chance to be an Ambassador for their breed, so we also focus our attention on individual training, whether that be leash training, good manners, or obedience commands. To find out who's currently adoptable, click the picture above.

They rescue and place dogs that have been abused, neglected, abandoned and mistreated, only to find them a permanent and loving home for life.
